Second Week of SEPTEMBER

In this video I'll tell you what LIGHTING is, the challenge of photography.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVE:

This course introduces participants to the importance of lighting in photography as a fundamental tool for photographers. The various topics covered will guide photographers in discovering its applications according to their needs. They will not only learn the techniques but also work on the principles of their application. It's not enough to simply know how to position the subject and the flashes; it's also important to understand the "why."

The importance of lighting in photography lies in the fact that photography is "writing with light." From this premise, we realize that lighting is what ultimately tells the story. It's not enough for the iconic elements to be correct and placed in the right location; that will give us an intellectual understanding of the message, but proper lighting will produce an emotional impact on the viewer.

Another objective is for participants to understand that the fundamentals of lighting and the conceptualization of lighting in photography are applicable to any type of photo. Therefore, the workshop is suitable for amateurs and professionals working in different branches of photography.

The practice is developed with still lifes and portraits because these are the genres that allow us to apply what we have learned in image creation and lighting.

Participants should bring a camera and flash if they have one; a large part of the workshop will consist of practical exercises designed to put into practice what has been learned in theory, with all its variations.

METHODOLOGY

DURATION: 3 days. From 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.

SYLLABUS:

PRIMER DÍA

Por la mañana: (Teoría):

  • El lenguaje visual - El signo, el símbolo, la codificación de la imagen.

  • El lenguaje fotográfico y su semántica.

  • Las funciones de la luz en fotografía, aplicaciones. Luces para exponer, para informar y para expresar.

  • La regla de 4 luces.

  • Factores que determinan la iluminación.

  • La intensidad lumínica.

  • Las propiedades ópticas de la luz.

 

Por la tarde (Práctica):

  • Prácticas con flash y luz continua.

  • Armamos dos bodegones diferentes y la gente va viendo distintas formas de iluminar en cada uno,

  •  Esquemas tradicionales.

  • También hacemos dos sesiones de retratos, donde aplicamos distintas técnicas de iluminación.

 

 

SEGUNDO DÍA

Por la mañana: (Teoría y Práctica):

  • El flash en modo manual.

  • El número guía.

  • Los usos creativos del flash: rebotado, (techo, pared, piso). 

  • Pintado con flash y luz continua.

  • Por la tarde (Práctica):

  • Haremos prácticas de los usos creativos del flash. Pintado con flash. Segunda cortina. Estroboscópico, etc.

TERCER DÍA

  • El flash fuera de la cámara (usos de radio o modo esclavo) y accesorios.

  • Modificadores para flash. Diferencias, usos y aplicaciones. Prácticas de los asistentes.

Por la tarde (Práctica):

El segundo día antes de despedirnos, se formaran grupos de 4 o 5 personas (depende de la cantidad de participantes al taller). lo ideal es tener unos 4 o 5 grupos. 
Cada grupo deberá planificar un bodegón y un retrato de tipo conceptual. La idea es que los participantes se encuentren con la problemática de construir la idea y llevarla cabo con dos tipos de fotografía que los hará poner en juego el conocimiento adquirido con respecto a la iluminación. Los alumnos deberán traer elementos para armar los bodegones y a alguna persona para el retrato, también pueden utilizar a uno de los integrantes del grupo como modelo). 
Los que sean de otras ciudades podrán agruparse con los asistentes locales.
Cada integrante del curso aportará equipo fotográfico para poder realizar las fotos. 
La consigna se completa pudiendo entregar antes de las 18hs las fotos terminadas y editadas en
 el taller.

What equipment should I bring to the workshop on the first day?
For Saturday's practice you need to have your camera and at least one lens, preferably a short telephoto lens (it can be a fixed lens 70mm, 85mm, 105mm or a zoom lens like: 70-200mm, 70-300mm, 24-105mm, etc.).

What equipment should I bring to the workshop on the second day?
In addition to your camera and chosen lens, remember that students will be divided into groups, and each group will need flash stands, tripods, and modifiers (softboxes, octoboxes, etc.), as well as at least one laptop per group. Keep this in mind if you're coming from out of town and plan to stay for both days. If you can't transport your equipment due to logistical reasons, don't worry; others in your group will likely be able to contribute.
